Tips for Cleaning Car Windows with Spray Car Wax

One of the neat things about a good spray car wax is that you can use it on all of the exterior surfaces of your vehicle, including the glass. You’d never dream of using paste car wax, even the best car wax, on your glass windows, but the best spray car wax products are designed to dissolve and lift dirt without scratching and then leave a protective layer of high gloss shine behind. Still, some people have trouble getting their car windows clean without leaving streaks. These tips can help you get a perfectly streak-free shine on sparkling clear windows. Use the Right Product Avoid using household cleaners, which often contain ammonia and other chemicals that can damage protective coatings and tint on your glass. Instead, choose a product that’s specifically designed for use on automotive surfaces. Some spray car wax products are specially formulated to work on all hard surfaces, including auto glass. They contain a mixture of carnauba wax, petroleum distillates and detergent agents that dissolve and lift dirt, then surround the dirt particles so that you can wipe them away without damaging or scratching the glass or your car’s finish. Use the Right Tools Paper towels, old bath towels and even soft, old T-shirts can all leave lint behind on your windows. Standard microfiber towels are better, but still not ideal. Choose tight-weave, low-pile microfiber towels. They’re lint-free, and the tight weave gives you just a little extra scrubbing ability to get your windows really clean. Don’t Clean in Direct Sunlight While some of the best car wax products claim that they can be used in direct sunlight without leaving streaks, err on the side of caution. The heat of the sun on windows can evaporate the wax on the glass before you have a chance to wipe it away. Choose a slightly overcast day or do your auto detailing in the shade for best results on your car windows. Get Some Leverage Do the windshield from the passenger seat to get the best reach. When you try to clean from the driver’s side, you end up fighting with the steering wheel and risk missing parts of the windshield glass. Instead of wiping with the towel over the palm of your hand, which is more natural, drape it over your fist. This gives you more leverage and cleaning power, and makes it easier to get into top and bottom corners of windows. Roll Your Windows Down A lot of people miss the top inch or so of their windows when cleaning auto glass. Roll the windows down about halfway to make sure you get the entire window. Spray car wax is a great choice for cleaning every part of your car, including the car windows. Using the right tools and techniques will make your results even better.
