Basic Tips on Car Engine Maintenance

  • Check Your Car’s Belts

There is a series of rubber drive belts in front of your car’s engine, which loop around several pulleys, driving all from the alternators to the air compressor. Get your accessory belt and timing belt tested every 25,000 miles and replace it every 50K miles.

  • Check The Oil Level

This can be done by everyone. It is easy and quick and it will tell a person if his engine needs additional oil. But if the oil is too low or too high, it can damage your engine. In checking the oil, park on a leveled surface and wait for your car to cool down after driving and then locate the dipstick. You need to draw it out and clean it and then push it all the way to the top. You can now check the oil level. If it is between the low and high marks, you car’s fine.

  • Check The Coolant Level

Indeed, everyone can do it. Coolant is the part that your car’s engine cannot go lacking. Each engine is unique, but if you read your manual, you must find where the coolant bank is. It will usually be locked to one side of your engine bay and it is a white semi-transparent bottle. After driving, you need to wait for your car to cool down and take a glance at it. Better coolant indicates markings in between of the high and the low indicators. Don’t take the cap radiator off just to check the coolant levels. If the system is still hot, then it’s still under pressure and may burn you.
